engineering guide 1-525

This Engineering Guide (updated for patch 4.1) was created to help you level through 1-525 in the quickest way possible. Engineering can be a bit pricey so if you find yourself low on gold check out this Gold Guide for tips on how to make lots of gold. This guide was tested before it was posted but if you find any problems or have any suggestions leave a comment!

Engineering Introduction

To start you'll have to go to a major city and seek out an engineering trainer (just ask a guard for directions). Once you find the trainer train "Apprentice Engineering" and you are ready to begin!
The supplies for engineering are found in a variety of places, some of the supplies are from mining and smelting, while others are found at vendors and off of mobs. Some of the items required by some engineering formulas are actually created through other engineering formulas so pay attention to the chart and where it says "Keep" or "Sell" because you will need many items to make others as you level up.
In order to make some items in this guide you will have to create an "Arclight Spanner" and a "Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor" these items are not consumed in the recipes you need them for, so hold onto at least one of each of them!
I've listed the "Components Required" in the guide and to clear up any confusion this is the components listed to make one item.

herbalism guide 1-525

First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Apprentice Herbalism.
For the first 70 points, you can go to any starter zone, there is not much difference between them. I recommend the two following zones, because they are really close to the zones that I recommend for the next part of the Herbalism guide.
You will gather the following herbs: [Peacebloom], [Silverleaf], [Earthroot]

Tirisfal Glades

Tirisfal Glades Herbalism map

Elwynn Forest

Elwynn Forest Herbalism map

70 - 150 Herbalism

You will gather the following herbs: [Mageroyal], [Briarthorn], [Bruiseweed]
Learn Herbalism Journeyman then head to Hillsbard Foothills because that is the best zone for this part of the Herbalism leveling guide. It's a horde only zone, this means it might be a bit harder to reach it for alliance players, and for low level players I recommend Darkshore and then at 115 go to Ashenvale, or Westfall and then at 125 go to Northern Stranglethorn. The reason I recommend Hillsbard is because you can level up to 150 in one zone.
Horde players can stay in this zone up to 160 or even a bit more if they want to, because there is a herbalism trainer in Tarren Mill, so you can visit her at 150. The reason I recommend you stay here until 160 is because this way when you go to the next zones, you will be able to gather Khadgar's Whisker right away.

Hillsbard Foothills

Between 70-125, just follow the yellow lines. When you reach 125, you can enter the orange circle and gather Frozen Herbs.

Hillsbard Foothills Herbalism map

150 - 230 Herbalism

You will gather the following herbs: [Kingsblood], [Fadeleaf], [Khadgar's Whisker], [Goldthorn]
There is no Goldthorn at Western Plaguelands, go to Feralas if you want to farm it.
Visit your trainer and learn Herbalism Expert. For the first 10 points until you reach 160, you won't be able to gather Khadgar's Whisker, and for the last 10-20 points, all of the herbs will be green, but it's still the fastest way if you to stay in these zones.
You will have to visit your trainer again when you reach 200.

Feralas

Feralas Herbalism map

Western Plaguelands

Western Plaguelands Herbalism map

230 - 285 Herbalism

You will gather the following herb: [Sungrass]
In both of the zones below the most common herb will be [Sungrass]. I recommend Thousand Needles, because in Eastern Plaguelands there are a lot of [Khadgar's Whisker] which will be green to you and grey for the last few points. I also like the easy layout of Thousand Needles, you just go in a straight line and you can't miss the herbs, but don't get me wrong, Eastern Plaguelands is a really great alternative.

Thousand Needles

If you don't have a flying mount, then when you reach the end of the yellow line, you should turn back and run back to the starting point of the yellow line. You will also have to swim to Twilight Bulwark or Twilight Withering, else you can't really get to the place where the herbs are. (you can see these zones if you click on the map below)

Eastern Plaguelands

285 - 325 Herbalism

You will gather the following herbs:
Swamp of Sorrows: [Golden Sansam], [Sorrowmoss]
Felwood: [Gromsblood], [Purple Lotus], [Dreamfoil], [Golden Sansam]
Visit your trainer and learn Herbalism Master.

Swamp of Sorrows

The whole zone is filled with herbs. You can find them everywhere, there is no farming route for this map.

Felwood

325 - 350 Herbalism

You will gather the following herbs: [Felweed], [Dreaming Glory], [Terocone]
The orange circles means that you should fly around that zone, because the herbs are spread all over inside them.

Terrokar Forest

Terrokar Forest Herbalism map

350 - 400 Herbalism

Learn Herbalism Grand Master. In Howling Fjord, you will mostly find [Goldclover], but there will be some [Tiger Lily] near the rivers and lakes, you won't be able to gather these until you reach 375 in Herbalism.

Howling Fjord

Howling Fjord map

400 - 425 Herbalism

Sholazar Basin is filled with Herbs. The most common herb is [Adder's Tongue], but you can also find some [Goldclover] and [Tiger Lily]. If you don't really care about selling the Herbs, you should stay in Sholazar Basin until you reach 450. All it takes is just one full circuit in the zone, assuming no one else is farming there.

Sholazar Basin

Howling Fjord map

425 - 475 Herbalism

Visit your trainer and learn Herbalism Illustrious.
You will gather [Cinderbloom].

Mount Hyjal

475 - 500 Herbalism

You should go to Deepholm and gather [Heartblossom] or you can stay in Mount Hyjal until you reach 500.

500 - 525 Herbalism

You will gather [Whiptail].

Uldum

mining guide 1-525

First, visit any trainer in the main cities of old Azeroth - just ask a guard, and learn Apprentice Mining.
Download the following addon: Gathermate2
This addon shows you every Mining node location on your map. The addon and the databse can be found here.
I recommend you to get the following enchant: [Formula: Enchant Gloves - Advanced Mining] you can just buy any low level gloves from a vendor and enchant that one with this Enchant, equip the gloves when you level your mining. Check the Auction House and if there is any [Scroll of Enchant Gloves - Advanced Mining] available, buy it.

1 - 65

You will mine [Copper Ore] in this section.
When you have around 30 copper Ore, go and smelt them then repeate the cycle, go mine ores then smelt them. Save the Copper Bars, you will need them.
Check out my other Mining leveling guide if you want to level mining with [Smelting] only. You can level mining a lot faster, but it will also cost you a lot more gold.

65 - 125

Learn Mining Journeyman.
You will mine the following ores: [Tin Ore], [Silver Ore]
At 75 you can learn how to smelt Silver Ore. This will help you get your skill to 125. Silver Ore and bars sell for rougly the same. Buy the ores, smelt them and sell the bars at the Auction House. If you find any Silver Vein, smelt the ores before you reach 115 in Mining, because it's better to smelt them while they are still yellow or orange and Smelt Silver turns green at 122.

Hillsbard Foothills

Hillsbard Foothills is just simply the best place to farm Tin. If you are an alliance player you should still go there, but Northern Stranglethorn is a great alternative. You will see a red zone on the map, that zone is filled with Tin, it's everywhere. When you mined all of it, just go outside of the zone where you can see the little yellowish arrows, mine a few Tin and head back to the red zone, because it's most likely that the Tin Veins there are already respawned.

125 - 175

Learn Mining Expert.
You will mine the following ores at this section of this WoW Mining guide:
[Iron Ore], [Gold Ore]
At 155 you can learn how to smelt Gold Ore. Buy 30 Gold Ore and smelt them, that should get you around 175. Same as with Silver Ores, buy them if they are not expensive, smelt them and sell the bars at the Auction House.

175 - 230

You will mine the following ores: [Mithril Ore], [Truesilver Ore]
Felwood and Burning Steppes are the best places to farm because the mining route is just so simple in these two zones. Badlands is also a really good place, but I found a bit more Mithril in the other zones.
When you reach 225, don't forget to visit your Mining trainer!

Felwood

Felwood Mining map

Burning Steppes

Don't go into Dreadmaul Rock. There is plenty of Mithril at the corner of the map, you will just get dismounted if you go into the cave and it will slow you down.

Badlands.

230 - 300

You will mine [Thorium Ore].
Buy Thorium Ores and smelt them until you reach 255 (250 if you have the Mining Enchant on your gloves), the reason for this is that with 255 Mining skill, you will be able to mine Rich Thorium Veins, not just the small ones. You can actually smelt Thorium up to 275 if you want to, as you can see it in my smelting guide. Sell the Thorium Bars at the Auction House if you don't need them.
When you reach 275, you could go to Hellfire Peninsula and mine Fel Iron, but I don't recommend it. You will level your mining faster if you stay in Azeroth. My recommendation would be to mine Thorium up to 325, and then you can go to Nagrand.

You will mine [Fel Iron Ore]. You can mine Fel Iron up to 350 if you want to and you can skip the Nagrand section of the mining guide.

Hellfire Peninsula

325 - 350

You will mine [Adamantite Ore]. Often you will find Rich Adamantite Deposits, but unfortunately you won't be able to mine them until you reach 350. The red zones are caves and you should go into them, because there is a lot of Adamantite in those.

Nagrand

Nagrand mining guide's map

350 - 400

Visit your trainer and learn Mining Grand Master.
You will mine [Cobalt Ore]. I found Borean Tundra to be the best place to farm Cobalt, however you can go to Howling Fjord if you want to, there is plenty of Cobalt there too.

Borean Tundra

Borean Tundra map

400 - 425

You will mine [Saronite Ore]. Wintergrasp is simply the best place to farm Saronite, you will find a few Rich Saronite Deposits, but you won't be able to mine them yet. If the battle is on, you won't be able to use flying mount for a few minutes.

Wintergrasp

425 - 475

Learn Mining Illustrious
You will mine [Obsidium Ore].There is a lot more Obsidium in Hyjal than in Vashj'ir, but there is also a lot more players. Hyjal beats Vashj'ir if there isn't anyone else farming the zone, else the zones are pretty similar. If you go to Vashj'ir, you will also have to do the starting quests until you get your underwater mount.

You will mine [Elementium Ore].

Twilight Highlands

There will be some Pyrite Deposit, but you won't be able to mine them until you reach 525. Rich Elementium Vein also requires a mining skill of 500, please don't get angry for not being able to mine these yet.
